Finding the last mob is the only challenge there is in vanquishing. Really, killing them is already too easy.

I'm legendary vanquisher, and part of the fun was to find those very last mobs. I would start the vanquish very systematically, as not to miss any place.

Of course, I've had some times I needed to search for half an hour for the last mob, but for me, it's part of the vanquishing. Spread out your party, send your heroes to all the nooks and crannies of the map to find that one elusive mob.

But maybe I just like to give myself a challenge in a game that's already too easy in my opinion.

So as not to be a elite ass and /notsign because I don't want to cheapen the title...make it so as soon as you use that skill to point to the last mob, you'll lose all of the rewards you would get (gold and exp). Now you can choose to vanquish the 'old' way and reap the rewards (although 2k isn't that much), or 'cheat' and be proud of yourself while flashing your title.

nothing more friggin annoying than running in circles around ice tooth cave, then flagging your heroes all over the map after 15 minutes hoping to catch a patrol, then scraping the edges of the map because you don't know wtf else to do, then realizing that there is a group of summit where the map is fogged over, then spending 15 minutes individually flagging your heroes step by step to where you are because they run around in no particular direction when you cancel their flags.
"You have been in this map for 1 hour 32 minutes."

screw that.

I'd prefer people learned how to play the game efficiently than give them ways to be more lazy. It is not hard to do, and if you play smart and sweep the map as you go, there will be no 'missed' mobs. Sorry, but if you are too lazy to do the Vanquish efficiently, then you don't have any reason to get it done at all. Take the time to do it right, or take the time to search for that last group.

I should not have to take the same amount of time to clear 1% of the mobs as I took to clear 99%.

Not necessary, I vanquished all of Tyria and Cantha without needing it. The most I ever spent looking for a missed group was upwards of 30 mins. Not to mention just cause it points to the general direction, doesnt mean the group isn't continually moving, or that you're going the right way to get to that group.

I suggest you come up with a strategy to ensure that you do not miss a mob. I go along the edges of a zone clearing, and then head inward and clear out sections, personally.

Yeah, if you know how the mobs in the area spawn and patrol ,you can find them, but there are times when lag makes creatures pop-up later after you have passed the area, and you may have to backtrack and stroll though the entire area several times to find that last mob.

I didn't realize there was a wrong way to do vanquishing unless you got killed and the entire party hit 60 dp. As was mentioned, the definition of vanquish doesn't mean to run around searching for the last mob.

I completely agree with this. I hate HM but when I'm in it vanquishing, it's annoying trying to find the last mob especially in a big area. But yes it should be a PVE-only skill and would cost a skill slot but to me it would be worth it.

Seeing the amount of painassery that can become vanquishing, yes please. At least we can fix carto'ing with Texmod; not so much with vanquishing.

I've already gotten my Legendary Squisher title, and I even learned to sweep diligently enough on the way so that towards the end of the task there were very few instances where I had to hunt something down. However, I don't see any harm in having a red indicator once a certain fraction of monsters is left (any more than quests have a green indicator).

I'm not sure what to think about this one.
With a good strategy you would not need it, on the other hand there are some annoying patrols that are hard to catch.
I would agree to the feature only if it marks a patrol with a 'large' radius and not the last foe(s).
Static foes are annoying but you should be able to find them.
Me and a guildie spend 15 mins searching for the last foe on starter island Elona and could have been there a lot longer if I had not remembered where it could be. It was also a piece of the map not close to red dots (don't d/c else you've lost them) so it was obvious were to look.
That's part of the game.
But for patrols I don't mind adding a pointer or rough indicator.

After spending 30mins running round NKP this morning looking for the last mob i wanted to kill myself, this would have helped greatly.

Everyone splitting to catch the last mob is fun and even more fun if you can kill them as they run to catch up. So /notsigned

You all think that Anet could do this without significant work.

Zones would have to be fully populated on zone in. Spawns are not created until you get within trigger distance.

Also, comparison with the norn skill for Curse of the Nornbear is fail. It pings a predetermined location on map.. period.. it tracks nothing.

For the serious work this would require I would prefer other things done..this is a small issue in the big picture.

Game improvements should be geared towards the broad audience.. and not minor complaints from a small subset having issues with what is in reality a very few zones with wide ranging patrols.

How hard is it to find that last mob? I didn't spend more than 10 minutes looking for the last mob because I either looked at the map and saw locations I potentially missed, I backtracked to areas that had many patrols or I systematically made a path to vanquish so I didn't have to spend an extra 5-10 minutes searching for the last 1 or 2 mobs. I actually kind of like it sometimes, its like a game of hide-and-go-seek.

must be fun resurrecting a 2 year old thread >.>

This is not even the first thread about this issue this week.

I still say /notsigned, however.

I did all my vanquishes with hero/hench...there was nothing too hard about finding what was needed.

On top of that, what about areas with pop-up mobs. For those that don't know, pop-ups are not required to be killed to earn a vanquish in an area UNTIL they've actually popped-up. In other words, if certain areas are carefully avoided, a vanquish CAN be completed without killing those groups...so how is the game gonna show you the location of the 'last mob' in these cases where not every pop-up group has been triggered?

Why don't we just say, hey Anet, how about a skill which calls all remaining mobs to our current location...then we could eliminate the searching all together...

C'mon people, EARN the damn title.

This thread is actually the first one, resurrected to bring forth the issue.

I still think the best option would be a consumable made in Nightfall by the whispers (and give them also a summoning stone, since they don't have one).
The consumable would last 10 minutes and point the nearest foe.

Unlike the Eye of the North consumables, it won't give a real advantage, just help to save time finding the last enemy, so those with wealth to spare and little patience could use it.

This just happened to me like 5 days ago doing the ZVanq. One enemy left on the entire desert map and I end up wasting an extra 35 or so minutes trying to find it because it roams around. I ran passed the area I killed it about 3 times before I barely saw the dot on my map. Waste of time for a 3 second fight, /signed
